영어와 우리말의 가장 큰 차이는 어순이다.
어순이 비교적 자유로운 우리말에 비해 영어는 어순이 매우 중요하다.
그리고 그 어순 차이로 인해 영어로 된 지문을 해석하고 이해하는 데 어려움을 겪는다.
해석이 용이한 단위로 끊어서 영어 어순의 흐름을 따라 해석하는 것이 중요하다.

국제 경제 기관들은 가지고 있지 않다-실행 방법을(막을 수 있는-현재 우위를 점한 서구의 특권을 가진 집단들을 /조작하는 것으로부터-자유 시장 체제의 규칙들을 /자신들에게 유리한 쪽으로). 그러나 세계화 세력들이 얻음에 따라 -힘과 추진력을, 그런 위반들은(자유 시장의 철학적 공식의) 불가피하게 줄어들 것이다. 적절한 때가 되면/ 근본적인 경쟁의 동력이(세계 자유 시장 체제의) 강제할 것이다 -모든 정부가 따르도록 -자유 무역 규칙을.  인상적인 부상은(중국, 인도, 브라질의 /세계 시장에서) 나타낸다 -변화를(세계적인 영향력의). 그들의 경제와 내수 소비 시장이 충분히 발달할 때,// 그들은 확고한 위치에 있을 것이다 (주장하는 -서구의 특권 집단들이 따라야한다고 /자유 시장 체제의 원칙에, 그렇지 않으면 거부될 것이라고 -접근에(대단히 수익성이 좋은 무역과 투자 기회로의(자신들이 제공해야 하는)). 세계화하고 있는 세계는 요구할 것이다 -재편을(우위를 점한 ‘국제’ 기관들의(현재 지배 받고 좌우되는 /초강대국들의 이해관계에 의해)), /‘세계적인’ 기관들로 (기반을 두고 /협력에(동등한 국가들 사이의)) (이롭게 하는-모든 사회를 똑같이).

 

영어는 뒤에서 수식한다. 이 부분이 정말 어렵다.
짧은 부분은 그래도 어느 정도 적응을 해도 수식 부분이 길어지면 부드럽게 해석하기가 쉽지 않다.
그래도 그것이 영어식 사고 흐름이니 익숙하도록 계속 연습해야 한다.
불편하다고 다시 한국식으로 바꾸면 영어를 익히는 것이 계속 어렵게 된다.

이 문장은 상당하게 복잡하게 보이지만 그냥 뒤에서 수식한 것이다.
구조적으로 보면 아래와 같다.

A globalizing world
will require
the redesign 
          ↶of ①prevailing international institutions, 
                                  ↶(which are currently dominated and governed /by the interests of superpowers),
           into ②global institutions 
                                  ↶(based /on cooperation↶among equals /and which benefit -all societies equally).

 

 

큰 구조는 가장 흔하고 일반적인 주어-동사-목적어 구조인 3형식이다.
A globalizing world will require -the redesign
주어(세계화하고 있는 세계는) 동사(요구할 것이다) -목적어(재편을)


그런데 목적어의 수식이 상당히 길어진다.
the redesign of ①prevailing international institutions, into ②global institutions 
재편은 재편인데 ①우위를 점한 국제 기관들을 ②세계적 기관으로의 재편이다.

여기서 끝나면 좋으련만 여기서 끝나지 않고 또 뒤에서 수식을 한다.
the redesign of ①prevailing international institutions, ↶(which are currently dominated and governed /by the interests of superpowers)
into ②global institutions ↶㉮(based /on cooperation↶among equals )and ↶㉯(which benefit -all societies equally)


그냥 ①우위를 점한 국제 기관들이 아니라 (초강대국들의 이익관계에 의해서/ 현재 지배 받고 좌우되는) ①우위를 점한 국제 기관들이다

그냥 ②세계적 기관이 아니라 ㉮(동등한 국가들 사이에 협력을 기반으로 두고) ㉯(모든 사회에 동등하게 이익을 주는) ②세계적 기관이다.

 

 

 

 

우리말 순으로 다시 정리하면

④prevailing international institutions (which are currently ③dominated and ②governed ①by the interests of superpowers) 
현재 초강대국들의 이익관계에 의해서 지배받고 좌우되는 우위를 점한 국제적 기관들에서

into ⑩global institutions ↶⑦based /⑥on cooperation↶⑤among equals /and which ⑨benefit -⑧all societies equally
동등한 국가들 사이의 협력을 기반으로 두고 모든 사회에 동등하게 이익을 주는 세계적 기관으로

⓪A globalizing world ⑫will require -⑪the redesign
세계화된 세상은 재편을 요구할 것이다.  

 

우리말 순으로 해석해보면 영어와 상당히 다르다는 것을 알 수 있다.
거의 반대로 해석된다고 봐도 괜찮을 정도다.

 

우리말이 해석되는 방식과 영어가 해석되는 방식을 구조적으로 보면 아래와 같다.

 

도식화 하면 우리말은 흩어진 정보들을 모아가는 느낌이라면 
영어는 큰 줄기에서 가지쳐서 뻗어 나가는 느낌이다.

영어가 흘러가는 방향을 습득하려면 가운데에서 뻗어가는 느낌을 몸에 체득되도록 연습해야 한다.
